Outsourcing plus LocalAI will soon become more economical vs. Frontier labs

We keep hearing that the inference costs are supposed to be on a downward trajectory but they are evidently not, not for the frontier US labs anyways. GPT 5.5 ($5/$30) that released less than 2 months after GPT-5.4 doubled the API pricing across the board. GPT 5.5 costs over 3x of what GPT-5 cost 8 months ago ($1.25/$10). Gemini 3.5 Flash ($1.50/$9.00) tripled the API pricing across the board over its predecessor Gemini-3-flash-preview ($0.50/$3.00) which was already price-hiked from its predecessor 2.5 Flash (0.30/$2.50)

"When discussing LLM pricing, people are missing the plot. The subscription token price is 10x-40x cheaper than API pricing. Your 90$ Claude subscriptions give you close to $1000 to $4000 in equivalent API token pricing. The second issue is that the quality of the model “operator”"

Launch HN: Minicor (YC P26) – Windows desktop automations at scale

Hey we’re Faiz and Saheed and we built Minicor so AI companies who need to integrate to desktop systems with no API can quickly build scalable desktop RPAs. Demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD0GHZIJ1cw We were working on non-RPA integrations when a customer promised to sign a deal in 2 days if we could unblock a sale of theirs that involved integrating with a clinic’s Windows based medical re Deploy self-healing computer use agents that adapt when UIs change. Zero to production in hours. The RPA platform for deploying AI into legacy systems Radically reduce error rates with self-healing agents. When a UI changes or an unexpected dialog appears, the agent catches it, adapts, and keeps going. A reflection agent verifies every action against what's on screen and self-corrects before the workflow breaks. No more rebuilding scripts every time a vendor ships an update.

"Congrats on the launch. One complaint: RPA this, non-RPA that, but you never explain what it means. I would write down the acronym fully once at the first mention on the landing page."

Don't Subscribe So Casually

Most people pick subscriptions the same way they pick snacks. Subscriptions, however, are more like roommates than Oreos. Anything you subscribe to gets a small, recurring vote on who you become. Being conscious of this has been worthwhile throughout the modern era of subscriptions, but the rise of chatbots — which can be customized, tailored, and packaged to become even more addictive and to amplify the negative effects of subscription models — makes revisiting the issue especially important. I don’t think people think of ChatGPT as a normal subscription: it’s shiny, new, and powerful, but from a financial perspective — and from the perspective of the company’s incentives — it’s just another Netflix. If someone offered you a magic button that gave you ten dollars now, but carried a high probability of altering your tastes, your routines, and the way you think, would you press it?

Top comment

"I would go a step further, cancel as soon as you subscribe. It's still valid for a month because you've paid for it! If you ever need to use the service again just re-subscribe (and re-cancel) In fact, what is stopping you from cancelling all your subscriptions right now? You can"
